Amongst The Arbutus
This was the first of 4 projects that Kettle River Timberworks has done on Sidney Island with builder Rick Rowland. This home started with a 400 sq. ft. ‘prototype’ cabin. The clients wisely chose to build this scaled-down version prior to building the ‘real deal’. The prototype allowed them to fine tune their design decisions and provided them with a comfortable abode during construction of the final version. Both the prototype cabin and the final home nestle discretely in the hemlock and arbutus forest. The simple, clean lines of the timberwork tie in seamlessly with the built-in cabinetry and trimwork.
Susan and Vic Johnston, Sidney Island, BCKettle River worked with us from the very inception of our project – to build a dream cottage in a remote location. It took 5 years. They were there every step of the way, always professional, supportive, punctual, exciting, and generous with advice and encouragement. We built 2 buildings, a studio/guest house and main house. The location & logistics were challenging and the company had to work hand in hand with our remote contractor. The final product is exactly what we discussed, envisioned and on budget. We highly recommend this company and its principal/owner Dave Petrina.
